About The Event

Outdoor Photographer once listed the Three Sisters Ranch as one of the “greatest outdoor photo studios in the world.” Nestled in Idaho’s Big Lost Valley, the majestic Lost River Range looks down over the ranch, peaking at over 12,000 feet. This was David Stoecklein’s favorite place to capture imagery. Here, he created countless images for iconic brands like Chevrolet, Copenhagen, Stetson, and Marlboro—to name a few. Students will capture fall colors in the mountains, running horses, and candid moments with cowboys, cowgirls, and cattle.

ADD ON | Lightroom Class

The Lightroom Plus Class gives students an additional day of training behind the computer before the photography workshop begins. This hands-on course covers the core fundamentals of a professional photography workflow. Our instructors provide students with a batch of images to work with, walking them through advanced importing, exporting, color grading, editing, and backup techniques. The instructors are professional photographers and videographers, drawing from real-life experience to provide expert guidance on all aspects of camera operation, from the field to post production.

This class is perfect for beginners and advanced students alike—those who want to elevate their understanding of media management and accelerate their photographic skills.  The class has an additional price of $450.00, select this optional add-on during registration. Instruction takes place on Friday,  9:30am-4pm.

Activity Level and Weather Considerations

Students should be in good health and feel comfortable walking or standing for extended periods. Sturdy boots are necessary. Daily activities may include light hiking on uneven ground, and shooting photos from the ground. Rain and even snow are possible. Please be prepared and dress accordingly.

Equipment

We suggest that students bring the camera equipment they typically shoot with. This should be in a backpack or some sort of easy-to-carry case. We also recommend bringing personal laptops, card readers, and external hard drives to store and backup images. Computer equipment will not be taken into the field; it will be used for editing and review after the shoot. Lightroom editing software is highly recommended.

We also recommend students use a camera that has exposure control and an interchangeable lens system. That said, students do not need to own a wide variety of equipment or lenses for this course. Being able to experiment with a few focal lengths via an interchangeable lens system will aid students in capturing the action as scenes change throughout the workshop. The course will cover photography fundamentals and theory—elements that remain consistent across camera systems.

Lodging

Accomodations are not included in the price of this workshop. Please be sure to make your reservation promptly after you have registered. We suggest students stay through Monday morning as the Sunday slideshow usually ends late.
